Principal's report - Term 4 Week 9

Dear families,

It is hard to believe the 2024 school year is drawing to a close. It has been a truly magnificent year at WWPS!

Thank you to the entire WWPS community

It is timely to thank the many amazing people who make our school the very special place that it is. Firstly, I thank our hard working, dedicated and committed staff who make a difference in the lives of our children every single day. I thank our parents/carers and wider community members who support our children and staff every day. Your collaboration and teamwork is so greatly appreciated. Lastly, I thank our incredible students who amaze me every day with their thirst for learning, abundant resilience and commitment to our school values.

Farewell to valued staff members

This year we farewell some highly valued staff members who will be exploring other opportunities in 2025.

Farewell and thank you:

Mrs Teresa Trigg – Mrs Trigg has been an absolute stalwart at our school for the last ten years, working as our School Administration Manager. Mrs Trigg will be relinquishing her role next year as she reduces her working days leading into retirement. I am confident that she will find much joy in spending more time with her beautiful family. I can not express what a huge loss this is for our school. Rest assured that we will still be seeing Mrs Trigg around our school next year as she plans to return to our school in the new year on a casual basis.

Mr Russell Bailey – Mr Bailey has been a highly valued Stage 1 teacher at our school over the past few years. His gentle and kind nature will be deeply missed by staff and students. I wish Mr Bailey all the best in his future career plans.

Mr Steven Maruca - Mr Maruca has been a committed and dedicated Stage 2 teacher at our school this year. His care, commitment and sense of humour will be sorely missed by staff, students and families alike. We will be seeing Mr Maruca at our school in the capacity of a casual teacher in 2025.

I thank the above staff members for their contributions to our school over many years and wish all of them much happiness and success in their new adventures.

Farwell to our Year 6 students

I would like to thank and congratulate our class of 2024 who will be transitioning to high school in the coming weeks. It has been an honour and privilege to be their principal over many years and it is with great pride, sadness, but also excitement, that I wish all Year 6 students the best as they commence high school.

On Wednesday 18 December at 2:45pm, community members are welcome to join us in our lower playground to form a guard of honour as our 2024 Year 6 students leave our school for the final time.

Semester Two reports

Written reports will be distributed later today via the School Bytes app. Parents/carers are requested to contact your child’s class teacher with any queries regarding your child’s growth and achievement this semester.

End of year celebration

On Monday 16 December, there will be a water play day for our whole school reward and to celebrate the end of the school year. On this day, the P&C raffle will also be drawn and the P&C have kindly offered to provide each student with a snow cone.

Activities at the water play event include a slip and slide, water relay races, bucket drop and water fights.

Children are asked to wear swimwear to school, including board shorts and rashies. Children are also asked to wear shoes that can get wet e.g. crocs. Students are asked to bring to school in their bags a towel and a dry change of mufti clothing, including shoes, to change into after the water play concludes.

Children are also invited to bring water squirters e.g. super soakers to school on this day.

Children who do not wish to participate will be provided with alternate activities.

We hope all children enjoy this end of school year celebration!

WWPS has talent

On Tuesday 17 December, we are holding our annual talent quest from 9:15am in our school hall. Families are welcome to join us on this morning to enjoy the many skills and talents of our children.

School holidays

The final day of school for students in 2024 is Wednesday 18 December 2024. Students return to school to commence the 2025 school year on Thursday 6 February 2025.

I wish all families a very merry Christmas and a joy-filled, fun and safe holiday period with loved ones. I am very much looking forward to catching up with everyone at the start of the 2025 school year.

Kind regards,

Michelle Barnes
