Principal's report - Term 1 Week 3

Dear families,

What a wonderful start to the 2023 school year we have enjoyed! Students have returned to school in a calm, settled and happy manner. It was an absolute joy to welcome our children back to school and in particular to welcome our new Kindergarten children and their families.

Parent information sessions

Parent information sessions are occurring this week. They are being held each morning at 8:30am in children’s classrooms. Attending these sessions will give families the opportunity to meet your child’s class teacher and learn about the routines and learning in your child’s class. Your child’s parent information sessions are on:

Monday – Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4)

Tuesday – Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2)

Wednesday – Support unit (K/6B, K/6D and KL)

Thursday – Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6)

Friday – Early stage 1 (Kindergarten)

Swimming lessons

Swimming lessons commence this week. Children are asked to bring to school a towel, cossies, hat and goggles on your child’s swimming day. Swimming days in Term 1 are:

Wednesday: 1B, 1/2D, 2B, 6B, 3/4M, 3/4H

Friday: K/6L, KC, KE, K/6D, 5H, K/6B,

Swimming carnivals

It was a bust start to the school year with two carnivals in our first week. I extend a huge thank you to Mrs Hickey and Mr Bell for their stellar organisation of the two carnivals. I also thank our many parent volunteers. I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding sportsmanship of our children.

Breakfast Club

The Keiraview Breakfast Club will recommence next week. The Breakfast Club is coordinated by volunteers from Keiraview Uniting Church and supported by parent volunteers. All children are welcome to attend each Tuesday and Thursday 8:30am-9:00am in the classroom of K/6D (near our garden in the lower playground). A breakfast of cereal and toast is served.

Community hub

In 2023, our community hub will not be operating.

The community hub has made a positive impact on many community members for over 5 years and I thank our previous community hub leaders, Maree, Sam and Kristy for their commitment, passion and care in coordinating hub activities. I thank Community Hubs Australia and Illawarra Multicultural Services (IMS) for their ongoing support for making our hub so successful.

I encourage families who were attending the hub at our school to consider joining the community hub at Wollongong Public School. Please feel free to reach out to Wollongong Public School on 4228 9120 for further information.

I wish all families a fabulous week.

Kind regards,

Michelle Barnes
