Principal's report - Term 4 Week 1

Dear families,

Our school is enjoying a fun and exciting and fun start to Term 4.

Student led conferences

Student led conferences for Semester 2 2022 will be held on Wednesday 26 October 2022. Classrooms will be open between  3:15pm - 4:30pm on this afternoon. Parents/carers are welcome to attend at any time during this timeframe.

At the conference, your child will facilitate a conversation with you where he/she will share class and individual learning goals, progress towards achieving them and what his/her next learning goals will be. You will have the opportunity to see what learning expectations are in place for your child, and to see how your child is progressing to meet those expectations. You will also have the opportunity to see your child’s classroom, look through their workbooks and see their work displayed.  Other conferences for children will be occurring at the same time as your child’s conference. Teachers will be available to join this conversation that will be led by your child.

If you would also prefer to book in for an individual appointment with your child’s class teacher instead of attending the student-led conferences, please do so by contacting your child’s class teacher through our Seesaw app. Of course, as always, parents are encouraged to request an individual meeting with your child’s teacher at any time of the year to discuss your child’s achievement and growth.

It is the hope of our school that all children and a parent/carer attend the student led conferences or an individual appointment.

Swimming lessons

Term 4 class swimming lessons at our school pool start this week. Children are asked to wear their swimming costume to school under their school uniform. Children are asked to pack a towel, underwear, goggles and swimming cap in their bags.

Last day of school

Students will now finish school for the 2023 school year on Friday 16 December 2022. This is due to an additional School Development Day announced for staff across NSW public schools.

With this change, we ask that you arrange alternative care for your child on Monday 19 December.

Selective high school placement process for placement in Year 7 in 2024

Applications for Year 7 entry to selective high schools in 2024 open on 18 October 2022. Applications will close on 16 November 2022. The due date is strictly observed. Requests for late applications will be approved only under very specific and well-documented circumstances.

Find information about the application and placement process and apply online at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunityclasses/year-7

All candidates are required to sit the Selective High School Placement Test to be held on Thursday 4 May 2023.

The online application dashboard enables parents to log in to make updates and add attachments even after an application is submitted. Parents also communicate directly with the Selective Education Unit through the system’s messages feature.

Parents having difficulty completing or submitting an application, should contact the Selective Education Unit through their application dashboard or, if unable to do so, by email ssu@det.nsw.edu.au.

Safety on Phillips Avenue

In order to ensure the safety of all children and wider community members of our school, it is essential that the following rules and guidelines are followed during school drop off and pick up times.

The speed limit of 40km/h is to be adhered to.

Check that no pedestrians are using the children's crossing before driving through it.

Follow the parking restrictions. At the front of the school, it is a 2 minute parking zone. This zone is simply to drop children off or pick children up. No car is to be parked in this zone. Drivers must remain in vehicles in this zone.

U-turns on Phillips Ave are to be made at the turning bay past the school.

No parents/carers are to be using our driveway. The driveway is for staff and contractor use only.

Parents/carers are asked not to park across driveways on Phillips Avenue. Our neighbours are becoming distressed as access to their driveway and house is being impacted.

It is essential that drivers behave respectfully and responsibly to ensure our children safely enter and exit school grounds each day.

I thank all community members for your assistance in keeping all pedestrians around our school safe.

Kind regards,

Michelle Barnes

Principal
