Principal's report - Term 3 Week 9

Dear parents/carers,

A visit from our Executive Director

Last week, our school was honoured to have our Executive Director, Mr Glenn Paterson and our Director, Educational Leadership, Dr Margaret Turner visit our school. They met with our executive team to discuss current school data. They were particularly impressed with the huge growth our children are making in the area of writing. We also were able to talk through the situational analysis that our school has undertaken to inform the design of our new school plan. Both Mr Paterson and Dr Turner then visited our classrooms to spend time with our children and teachers. It was with great pride that I showed off our amazing school, and they both left our school overjoyed with the quality teaching and learning occurring in our classrooms. Congratulations WWPS!

Community consultation

Our school is asking for your feedback to assist us in writing our new school plan.

Over the coming days, staff will be asking parents/carers via Seesaw or in person at our school gate each afternoon to provide your thoughts about parent/carer engagement in student learning. We ask you to please consider your responses to the following questions:

1. What would you like to know more about in terms of how we teach children at school?

2. Would you be interested in receiving regular information about your child’s class learning goals and your child’s individual learning goals?

3. What do you see your role is in supporting your child’s learning?

Some parents will also be asked your thoughts on student attendance at school. We ask you to please consider your responses to the following questions:

1. Why is your child not in attendance at school each day?

2. What can our school do to support you in helping your child attend school each day?

Thank you for your anticipated support. It is important that our parents/carers have a voice in the future of our school.

Transition to Kindergarten

Our school is very busy planning for a fun and exciting transition to school program for our Kindergarten children starting school in 2021. We are planning for two scenarios. One scenario is where our usual face-to face WOW start program can go ahead. Another scenario, is where COVID-19 restrictions are not eased and we will be holding a creative and flexible transition program remotely. I would like to assure our 2021 families that your child will participate in a meaningful transition to school program, regardless of the scenario we are faced with come Term 4. More information will be communicated to families in the coming weeks.

Year 6 farewell

Our senior students are becoming increasingly anxious regarding their planned Year 6 farewell. Guidelines are expected to be released to schools detailing COVID -19 restrictions for Term 4. When this occurs, we will make final plans for our Year 6 farewell. In the meantime, I would like to assure our community that our school acknowledges the importance of the Year 6 farewell to our senior children and will work within restrictions to provide a special occasion to send them off to high school with style.

Staffing news

Last week, we farewelled Mr Blake Dowel as he commenced his paternity leave. He and his partner, Rhiannon have just welcomed a beautiful baby to their family named Levi. Our school community congratulates Mr Dowel and look forward to him returning in Term 4.

Mr Jackson Shereb is replacing Mr Dowel during his leave. He will be working in a variety of classrooms across our school, supporting many children.

Happy Spring holiday to everyone!

I thank all of our children, staff and parents/carers for a wonderful Term 3. I wish all of our families a fabulous Spring holiday. The last day for Term 3 is Friday 25 September. School returns for children and staff on Monday 12 October. Please stay safe and healthy during the school holidays.

Kind regards,

Michelle Barnes,

Principal
