Our transition to school program

Our comprehensive transition to school program at Wollongong West Public School is designed to help children and their families navigate this new chapter smoothly, ensuring a safe, happy and supportive experience for children and their families.

West Wonder Buddies

If your child is between 3 and 5 years old and plans to enrol at Wollongong West Public School within the next two years, we warmly invite them to join our "West Wonder Buddies" program.

As a West Wonder Buddy, your child will receive a free T-shirt and library bag. They will also have the opportunity to take part in our fun activities, including:

  • Story Time Fun
  • Picnic Fun
  • Kindergarten Orientation (for children starting school the following year only)

Story time fun

We invite families to our Story Time Fun events, a delightful opportunity for your child to visit our school library and experience the joy of shared story time. During these special gatherings, children listen to engaging stories, participate in a creative craft activity, sing songs and have the exciting chance to borrow a book to take home. These events not only foster a love of reading but also help children feel comfortable and connected to our school community. Join us for some wonderful mornings of imagination, creativity, and friendship as we warmly welcome you to our school.

Our Story Time Fun will occur between 9:15am - 9:45am on the following dates in 2026.

Picnic Fun

We invite prospective families to our Transition to School Picnic, a wonderful opportunity for your child to explore the school grounds in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. This event allows children to play and engage with their future classmates while parents and carers can meet our dedicated staff and connect with other families. Join us for an afternoon filled with fun activities, laughter and the chance to build lasting friendships as we welcome you to our school community!

Our Picnic Fun will occur between 9:15am - 10:00am on the following dates in 2026.

Kindergarten orientation

We are excited to offer Kindergarten Orientation sessions, where your child will have the chance to learn and play alongside their future classmates and Kindergarten teachers in a welcoming classroom environment. While the children engage in fun and educational activities, parents are invited to attend informative sessions with the Principal and Assistant Principal. During these sessions, parents will also hear from representatives of our before and after school care service, as well as our school canteen, providing valuable insights into our school programs, what to expect when starting school, and how to support your child's transition. This ensures you feel informed and empowered as you embark on this new journey together.

Our Kindergaren orientations sessions will occur between 9:15am - 10:30am on the following dates in 2026.
