Welcome to Term Three

Good afternoon families of Wollongong West Public School,

I hope that all families enjoyed a relaxing, healthy and safe Winter break.

Today our staff returned to school. We enjoyed a wonderful day of professional learning where we started preparations for the design of our next school plan as well as looking at the impact of trauma on young children and how our school can best adopt trauma informed practices to support our children.

In the holidays, our school had new softfall installed under our playground equipment as well as a beautiful sandstone edging. The gardens in our school were also spruced up. Work will continue over the coming days to finish the garden work. Our school is looking fabulous!

COVID-19 continues to be a risk in the community. Therefore, the guidelines that were in place to conclude Term 2 will continue to be in place to start Term 3. This includes our school maintaining good hygiene practices, such as additional cleaning and handwashing processes. In addition, adults, including parents/carers are not to be on school grounds, unless in the event of exceptional circumstances by appointment only with the permission of the Principal. Parents/carers are requested to drop their child outside school grounds each morning, where children can then walk into the school gates unaccompanied by their parent/carer. In the afternoon, parents/carers are requested to wait in their cars for their child to leave the school grounds. Kindergarten children will be available on Phillips Avenue from 2:50pm to be collected and other children will be dismissed from either the Philips Avenue or Crown Street gates at 3:00pm.

On the final day of Term 2, all children were issued with their Semester One report. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we have been unable to hold our usual student led conferences. If a parent/carer would like an interview with your child’s teacher to discuss learning, social and emotional progress and growth, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher via Seesaw or by phone on 4229 2096 to schedule a phone or Zoom meeting.

This term, we welcome a new staff member to our school. Mrs Samantha Rudd will work in our community hub each Tuesday as our Hub Leader. Mrs Maree Szalla will continue working as our hub leader each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We warmly welcome Mrs Rudd to her new role.

I am very much looking forward to all of our children returning to school tomorrow.

Kind regards,

Michelle Barnes

Principal
