Dear families,
From this coming Monday, all children will be attending school for one day each week. Please contact your child’s teacher via Seesaw or our office on 4229 2096 if you are unsure which day your child is invited to attend school. On the other days in the week, parents/carers are encouraged to support children with remote learning at home.
As we enter Phase 1 of our managed return to school, our school will be implementing temporary social distancing and hygiene measures to keep all of our children, families and staff safe and healthy. These measures were shared with families last week via our website and our Skoolbag and Seesaw apps.
Below is some further information regarding these procedures.
Drop off
From 8:30-9:00am, teachers will be stationed at the Phillips Avenue gates to receive your child. Parents/carers are asked to use the Phillips Avenue as a “kiss and drop” zone only. Parents/carers are to remain in their car and teachers will assist children to walk from cars and to enter school grounds. Children walking to school are asked to enter school grounds via our Phillips Avenue or Crown Street gates. Our Mount Keira Road gate will be closed until further notice.
Pick up
From 2:55-3:05pm, parents/carers are asked to remain in cars and from a queue at the front of our school on Phillips Avenue. As parents get to the top of the queue, teachers will assist your child to walk to your car. Children walking home from school will be allowed to do so at 3pm from either the Phillips Avenue or Crown Street gates.
Road safety
Parents are asked to follow all road rules on Phillips Avenue, especially while we implement our revised drop off and pick up procedures. This means that u-turns must be completed at the end of Phillips Avenue in the turning bay. Please be patient and polite when using Phillips Avenue to ensure that our children and staff members remain safe.
Late arrivals/early departures
Parents/carers of children arriving late or departing early are asked to park on Philips Avenue, call our office on 4229 2096 and a staff member will escort your child into or from school.
Canteen
Our canteen will be open Monday - Thursday for pre-ordered lunches as well as snacks. Please consider supporting our canteen operator during these unique times when limited children are attending school.
Bring your own device
Children in Years 3-6 are asked to bring their own personal devices, such as a tablet or laptop to school on the day that they are attending. Teachers will be distributing a BYOD contact today via the Seesaw app that must be signed and returned to school when your child brings their device.
Any family who has borrowed a school device for remote learning, is also asked to bring that device to school on the day that your child returns.
Exercise books
Children in some classes were issued with an exercise book as part of remote learning packs to be used when working at home. Children are asked to bring these exercise books to school on the day that your child attends school.
The staff of Wollongong West Public school are thrilled to have our children returning to school for one day each week. Every child has been sorely missed by staff and we are excited to have them return in a safe and considered manner.
