Principal's report - Term 4 Week 7

Dear families,

The final weeks of our 2020 school year are flying by.

Presentation assembly

This coming Monday we will be holding four presentation assemblies to celebrate the growth and achievement of all of our children across the curriculum in 2021. The parents/carers of award recipients have been notified. Please, be aware that due to COVID-19 restrictions limiting visitors on school grounds, only two families for each award recipient are invited to the assemblies. Please do not hesitate to contact our office with any queries.

Construction of our nature play area

Next Tuesday, work will commence on the construction of a new outdoor place for our children. The new play area will be located in the large garden running alongside the footpath next to our driveway. I appeal to parents/carers to be flexible in the coming weeks as entry to our school via the gate near our driveway mat be impacted. At times, children and families may need to enter our school via the Phillips Avenue gate near our front COLA and existing play equipment. While the construction of our new nature play area may cause short term disruption, it will bring much joy for our children long term. I sincerely thank our P&C for successfully obtaining the grant that will pay for much of this project as well as also putting hard earned P&C funds towards this project. Thank you P&C!

Reports

Our teachers are finalising our 2020 Semester 2 reports. These written reports will inform parents about your child’s current achievement levels, areas for development and commitment to learning across all key learning areas. We are anticipating that reports will be shared with families on Friday 11 December.

Kindergarten transition program

Our transition to school program has been held over the past four weeks. Our Kindergarten teachers have loved meeting our new children and their families. Our children have thoroughly enjoyed playing, singing, reading and loved the attending last week’s Teddy Bear’s Picnic in our hall. I warmly welcome all of our new children and families to our school.

Transition for our children in Years 1-6 in 2021

Over the coming two weeks, our teachers will be visiting classrooms across our school to observe teaching practice and student learning. This will enable 2021 teachers to understand the current learning achievements and needs of our children. Our teachers will be empowered with knowledge about every child to ensure targeted and strategic planning for learning next year to ensure a smooth and seamless start to the 2021 school year for every child.

2021 classes

Next year, we are anticipating on having approximately 40 Kindergarten children starting at our school, meaning that we will be able to have 2 Kindergarten classes in 2021. We are planning on having 9 mainstream classes at our school, which is an increase from 8 mainstream classes in 2020. We will also have an additional class in our support unit in 2021. This class will cater for young learners with autism. It is lovely to see our school growing each year.

If your family is moving house in the holidays and/or your child will not be attending our school in 2021, please inform our office on 4229 2096 as a matter of urgency as planning for next year is well underway.

Construction of new indoor learning areas

Families may have noticed some building work being completed on the lower level of our school near our Community Hub. We have had two new classrooms and a student kitchen area built to accommodate our expanding school. This work will be completed to start the 2021 school year.

Important dates

The last day of school for children in 2020 is Wednesday 16 December 2020. At the beginning of 2021, children in Years 1-6 will return to school on Friday 29 January.

Kind regards,

Michelle Barnes
