Additional learning support
At our school, we ensure every student is ready to learn. We support students with disability and additional learning needs so they can take part in all areas of school life.
Students with additional learning needs can receive support in a mainstream class or in one of our four support classes designed specifically for children with autism and/or social and emotional needs.
Teachers and school learning support officers collaborate across all classes in our school to ensure that all children with additional needs are nurtured, included and supported to reach their full potential.
Support that fits your child's needs
Some students require additional support to feel confident and perform at their best in school. We collaborate closely with families to create support plans and adjustments tailored to each child's unique needs.
Additional learning support may include:
- specialist support for students with a confirmed or undiagnosed disability or learning difficulty
- specialist assistance for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) and/or newly arrived in our country
- talent development programs designed to meet the advanced learning needs of high-potential and gifted students
- small group and individual tutoring that provides targeted literacy and numeracy support for students
- regular check-ins to assess and update the planned supports.
Classroom adjustments may involve:
- creating accessible learning environments
- utilising assistive technology
- providing instructional resources and visual supports
- offering extra guidance, simplified content, or alternative focuses during lessons.
Assessment adjustments can include:
- a support person
- extended time for completing tasks
- use of simpler language
- scheduled breaks during activities
- alternative methods for completing assignments, such as oral presentations instead of written tasks.
We recognise when a student needs assistance through:
- observations by teachers regarding changes in learning or behaviour
- reviewing classwork and learning progress
- concerns raised by parents and carers or their requests for support.
Adjustments are planned with parents and carers. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.
